Across the Andean highlands and the Amazon rainforest, thousands of young students complete their basic education without ever touching a computer, accessing the internet, or developing essential digital skills. This is not a matter of talent or ambition — it is the consequence of a structural digital divide in rural Peru that continues to exclude entire generations from the digital economy.

Recent research on access to technology in rural areas shows a persistent and deeply unequal landscape. While urban students increasingly grow up surrounded by digital tools, many rural schools lack even the most basic infrastructure: reliable electricity, internet connectivity, and technological equipment.

For girls in particular, the impact is even more profound.

In many indigenous Amazonian communities, including Shipibo, Asháninka, and Yanesha communities, young girls often complete secondary school without opportunities to develop technological skills that are now fundamental for education, employment, entrepreneurship, and civic participation.

In remote areas of the Peruvian Sierra and Selva, some communities still live without stable electricity or internet access. This absence of infrastructure creates a barrier that prevents rural girls from accessing the same digital opportunities available to students in urban environments.

The result is a widening digital inequality that reinforces cycles of rural poverty and gender exclusion.

Yet this reality can change.

At ChicasTech, we believe that technology education is a pathway to opportunity, dignity, and long-term sustainable development.

Our initiative works directly with rural and indigenous communities to implement integrated solutions that address the structural causes of digital exclusion.

First, we support the installation of solar panels in rural communities, allowing schools and learning centers in remote regions to generate sustainable electricity where the grid does not reach.

Second, we help enable internet connectivity in rural areas, ensuring that students can access digital learning platforms, information resources, and global knowledge networks.

Third, and most importantly, we provide technology training for rural girls, equipping them with the skills needed to navigate the digital world — from basic digital literacy to STEM-oriented learning experiences that encourage creativity, innovation, and problem solving.

By combining education, renewable energy, and connectivity, ChicasTech is helping to build the foundations for digital development in the Sierra and Selva of Peru.

Every girl who gains access to technology gains the opportunity to imagine a different future.

A future where indigenous girls from the Amazon can become programmers, engineers, digital entrepreneurs, researchers, and leaders within their communities.

A future where geography no longer determines opportunity.

The digital world should not belong only to those born in cities.

It must also belong to the girls growing up in the forests, rivers, and mountains of Peru.

If we want inclusive development, digital inclusion must reach the last mile.
